Holocaust Education Events and Planning

Beth Israel has had an Holocaust Education Committee for a number of years and during some challenging times of antisemitism.  Members in and outside the BI community have participated in this Committee to plan and host events for Holocaust Education and commemoration.  If you wish to learn more about Holocaust Education and become involved with it at BIC, please have a look at the notes below and contact Ralph at shoaheducation@jccpeterborough.com

Neuberger Holocaust Education Week – November 2 – 9 at the Toronto Holocaust Museum (Click Events page link)

If you are interested in carpooling from Peterborough to either of these HE Week events:  Nov 5,  “The Wanderers”; and/or Nov 9, Kristallnacht Commemoration, please contact Ralph.

Book Launch!  Mining Memory:  A Granddaughter’s Reckoning with Holocaust History – by Denise Handlarksi.  November 11 (7:00PM) at Trent University:  Senior Common Room, Scott House, Traill College.  The book launch will include the screening of a documentary short about Denise’s journey to Poland and what it has to do with “mining memory.”  Rabbi Handlarski is well known at Beth Israel as a friend, a learned scholar and contributor to Holocaust Education and teacher education professor at Trent University.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27th and Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day-Israel)  on May 4th, 2027.

These are significant times of the year that provide important and historically critical contexts for Holocaust Education.  If you are interested in planning for and realizing  meaningful and time-relevant events not only for these occasions but as an on-going contribution to Holocaust Education please contact Ralph .
